Youngsters from the Husaini Islamic Centre organized a bucket collection in the city centre on Sunday 22nd August 2010.
The Husaini youth group invited young people across the city to join them in this event.
During the day the Muslim youths were fasting and took on the challenge of raising money for the people who have been affected by the floods in Pakistan.
Project Manager Sajida Mawani commented: ‘We were greatly disturbed to hear of the plight of the people and wanted to raise awareness as well as encourage the citizens of Peterborough to donate towards this appeal and decided to hold the collection in the city centre where many generous people donated’
After a five hour collection the motivated youths counted the donations, which amounted to £2500.
The event was a success as it also created an environment of cohesion with the young people in Peterborough. All monies raised will be sent to the people affected in Pakistan.
